Coffee

I won’t say that everyone should go out and get our coffee setup, but I can say that it brings me joy to use this setup every day.

    Espresso machine

    Decent DE1

The DE1 isn’t just an espresso machine. It’s every espresso machine that’s ever existed. The gizmos inside this machine allow it to change the flow and temperature of the water as it pulls shots, allowing it to mimic different types of espresso machines and extraction profiles. All of this means it’ll help teach you how to pull better shots. It’s also compact and fits in small places.

    Grinder

    Weber EG-1

I won’t lie: this is an extravagant grinder. But it’s legitimately the best grinder you can buy. It’ll grind espresso and pour-over better than any grinder out there. It’s a thing of magnets and burrs and beauty.

    Kettle

Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Studio Edition

It’s a great kettle — and the Studio Edition allows you to set the altitude you live at, which is important when you live at 6,300'.

  4. 4

    Bean canister

    Fellow Electric Atmos

I hate having loose bags of coffee around, and usually try to have 2-3 different varieties open at a time. The (USB-C!) Electric Atmos vacuum seals the beans with a press of a button. Is it needed? That’s not the point!

  5. 5

    Scale

    Fellow Tally Pro Studio Edition

This is my favorite scale by an order of magnitude or more. The killer feature is the Brew Assist Mode. You dial in your preferred ratio (we usually stick between 1:15-1:16), pour your beans in, and it’ll do the math showing you when you’ve poured the right amount of water in.

    Pour-over

    Hario V60 Coffee Decanter, 700ml

We’ve used this decanter for years now. It’s the easiest, most straightforward method for pour-over for 2 people.

    Thermos

    Thermos 16oz Compact Stainless Steel

No coffee setup is complete without a good old fashioned stainless steel thermos. Whoever’s up first will brew enough coffee for both of us and put the rest in the thermos. It’ll keep coffee hot for half a day if you want.
